About Mara Garatti And Her Work
Mara Garatti has been involved in art from a very early age. Living in Italy she was involved in many art installation projects working with groups of talented Italian artists mainly from Lombardia region of Italy. Her initial interest in becoming a jeweller started with a trip to the Indian state of Rajasthan 1996 where she became fascinated with the skills displayed by the jewellers of Jaipur as they worked metal and set stones into beautiful art.
Her interest did not wain and after relocating to England, she went on to study jewellery making at Hastings college. Under the guidance of Julie Tucker-Williams (established Hastings based jeweller) Mara's skills were honed.
Her first collection "Seashells"was inspired by unusual seashells found along the East Sussex coast: with them Mara created jewellery that complemented Maika Crampton paper couture dresses in a fashion show.
Subsequently Mara 's inspirations moved to the wonderment of humanity's story .Starting with primordial rock incisions/paintings and moving onto the geometrical shapes of Art Deco period.
In Mara's words: "I enjoy all the processes involved in creating jewellery from the sketching of a piece to working with the metal be it gold or silver.
Each piece produced has his story, his own way of becoming a jewel, a personal tale .The search for material, my passion, my frustrations they make every single jewel something special that is loved both by me and every person who has worn it or will proudly wear it."
